Princess Margaret Hospital cultivates research success
In September I will walk 55 kms through the streets of Toronto, united with thousands of others.
Please be my sponsor to help keep the world's best researchers working to conquer cancer.
This will be my seventh year walking, benefiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The event has made a bold change from a focus on women's cancers to include all those who suffer from this disease. It makes sense.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer more than a dozen years ago, but my dad is also living with prostate cancer. Families often face cancer in its many forms. Princess Margaret Cancer Centre supports us all. It is a top researcher that shares discoveries worldwide.
In May, I was fortunate to learn what makes Princess Margaret Cancer Centre unique in the world of medicine. At The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation's 2018 Behind-the-Scenes Donor Impact Event, many new members of the hospital's medical team discussed the future of cancer care. They talked about technical advances, emphasis on quality of life, epigenetics, proton therapy, immunotherapy and patient experience. What stood out was the culture of learning, giving and mentorship at the hospital.
"There is so much collaboration that (engenders) so many ideas," said one surgical oncologist. "I saw possibility and potential from the research side, and mentorship to make (a) global impact," said another panelist. For yet another young doctor, coming to Princess Margaret was the, "chance to work with heroes."
We are extremely fortunate to have a cancer centre that unites the globe's most brilliant and thoughtful researchers and practitioners. They are supported in a large part by The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Please help the Foundation continue its vital mission: "To raise and steward funds to deliver breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at The Princess Margaret, one of the top five cancer research centres in the world."
Thank you for considering my request for sponsorship. Cathy
