In honour of OUR Nana, a survivor!
Over 16 years ago my grandmother, Roma, was diagnosed with breast cancer. As a very close-knit family, this news ripped through us with vigor. We all vowed to stick together, and supported my courageous grandmother fight her battle with extreme strength and courage. Fortunately, she won her battle, and has been cancer-free for 16 years now.
We are all so grateful that she fought so hard, and along with my grandfather, they have been an active part of all our lives. We banned together 2 years ago, as the ever-close family that we are, when we lost my grandfather, Jack, suddenly. He was the true patriarch of our family and my grandmother’s partner, forever. This year, we not only celebrate my Nana, but also the remarkable life my Nana and Pappy created for themselves, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. We are a unique family, so close in every way, and this event is a perfect example of how we all band together in support for each other and this great cause.
This will be the 16th year Roma's Roses will walk in support of finding a cure for all women's cancers, to celebrate Nana’s victory. Initially formed by my aunt Annette, who has lead this team every year, Roma’s Roses will be walking strong and united. I will be walking with my aunt, our cousin Sherrye, our great friend Ronnie, and all of our family and friends that support us along the journey.
Thank you for all your support throughout the years – we will do you proud! With generosity and support, perhaps one day this disease will no longer be a part of our lives.
