2017 Rexall OneWalk to Conquer Cancer benefiting Princess Margaret Cancer Centre

Purple Hearts

Purple Hearts
On September 9th we will walk  through the streets of Toronto, to raise money for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation.

Cancer has touched all of our lives, but last year it turned ours upside down. We lost Joe Goodbaum, a beloved husband, incredible father, "brother" and friend to so many, at the young age of 57, only two short months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In his honour, we are committed to changing outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic cancer is a truly horrible disease. It is difficult to diagnose and spreads extremely quickly, and the vast majority of cases are not diagnosed until it is too late to treat. It has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers, and 75% of patients die within their first year of diagnosis. As the rates of incidence and death in other major cancers are declining, pancreatic cancer is on the rise. While it recently surpassed breast cancer as the leading cause of cancer death in the country, it remains woefully under-funded.

Purple is the global symbol for pancreatic cancer. On September 9th, we will come together as the Purple Hearts, in support for those currently fighting pancreatic cancer and united in love for those we have lost to this terrible disease.

Please help us make a difference- by donating much-needed funds, walking with us, or simply sharing our story (or your story). Your donation will directly support ground-breaking research at PMH that focuses on discovering new and better ways to diagnose and treat pancreatic cancer.

Thank you so much for your support.
