OneWalk. One Day. ALL Cancers.
Three years ago, I was asked to be an Honourary Chair for the Walk to Conquer Cancer. I was happy to lend my support to a cause that I believed was very important and I have been proud to lead the team at CI, CI Super Striders. In three years, that amazing group of walkers has raised almost $500,000 in support of cancer.
Three years ago, cancer was something that happened to other people. That did not diminish the seriousness of the disease and the need to do something to help but it was not personal. This year cancer has become an intensely personal fight. This year our darling daughter Taylor was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and a dear friend has fought her own battle with cancer. Both Taylor and my friend have received excellent and prompt care and today both are cancer free. But I now have first hand intimate understanding of the importance of all the research that has been done and all the further work that is necessary if we are going to conquer cancer.
My husband Dave and our three children Taylor, Chris and Tory, along with our son in law John and Taylor' boyfriend Kyle and Chris' girlfriend Emma, have joined the CI team and have chosen to walk the longest route- 40Km. The funds we raise through OneWalk support Personalized Cancer Medicine at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world, enabling its world-leading clinicians and researchers to detect cancers earlier, diagnose with more precision, target treatment for each patient and support patients and their families throughout the cancer journey.
